First round knockout delivered by Tuivasa!
A great night of fighting. The expectations were high for the FFEI comeback and the fighters gave us a great show. All fights were entertaining, energetic and proved to us we have a great set of champions at our company.
If we have a brief look over the first four fights, they were all outstanding. Briggs vs Ferrari kicked off the night and we could see from the start how the fight would play out. Ferrari was light on his feet but Briggs had that power to put him away. The result was a third round knockout from Briggs. Afterwards, the showdown between Sokolov Kozlov and Gabriel Dos Santos. I think this fight proved Kozlov has aged and just can’t produce what he once could. Dos Santos gave a beautiful performance, being careful and picking his shots wisely. Next up was another Brazilian in Wesley Carlos taking on the former Lightweight champion and brother of Michael Briggs, Connor Briggs. This was very fast paced and multiple knockdowns happened in the fight. It was very hard to call who would win but I think the accuracy of Carlos’ punches got the better of Briggs. Continuing through the night, Chris Kelly vs Cordell Reed. Both powerful, precise and efficient in their fighting styles. It was similar to the previous fight, you couldn’t really tell who would win but Kelly knockdown Reed twice with his insane head kicks. It was a great fight.
Moving onto the Co-Main Event! Early doors, Johnson liked surprisingly good even though Frost has all advantages possible. A few takedowns in the first round and it looked like if Johnson was able to keep Frost on the ground and tire him out, we’d but looking at a great win for Johnson. Well this backfired. Out of no where, Frost put Johnson into a rear naked choke starts to submit Johnson. I’m sure many fans at that point believed Johnson could get out of it but Frost’s big arms put Johnson to sleep before he could tap.
We’re at the end of the night and the two heavyweights were ready to collide. Anthony Easton like focused, Tai Tuivasa looked excited. The ring sounds and they meet in the centre of the octagon. They were both hit hard early on and it looked definite it was going to be an early night for one of them. Easton gets rocked by a jab followed up with a straight. Another jab connects and Easton falls. Tuivasa has proven himself against a tough opponent and impressively in the first round. After the fight, he requests for a heavyweight title shot, currently held by Junior Dos Santos.
